Feeding the bump
Meh - didn't end up making one recipe from this book. I also don't love recipe books without full colour glossy pictures of the finished product - you know, so I can compare my often gloopy mess with their stylised, well-lit masterpieces.
What I took away from reading this book - baby needs nutrients to grow so try and eat nutritiously and make each calorie count. Pretty hard to do when all my body wants is all the foods I deprived it from in the lead up to the wedding!

an a-z of baby names
This is a book with lists and lists of baby names. Did not find it useful at all - especially when there are so many fantastic websites out there that are so much more intuitive. I like this one - www.top-most-popular-baby-names.com.
Attack of the fifty-foot hormones - Emma tom
Loved this book! It's written by an Australian author so things were more familiar and accessible.
The book is organised into chapters corresponding to the weeks of pregnancy, which are then divided into three parts - 1. Emma's pregnancy diary (hilarious! I found myself nodding in agreement and sympathy at so many of her issues, joys, and complaints). She keeps it real and honest! 2. Issues relating to the particular week. For examples see pic of the contents page to the left. 3. Resources - where you can go digging for more information on the issue being discussed. My favourite book so far! |
Baby and child - Dr Carol cooper
Good book with lots of pictures on all the little things people like me freak out about regarding looking after a tiny, defenseless human being.
As a first time parent, I realise there are A GAZILLION BILLION things I know nothing about and will need to know ASAP. Question and answer format for very concrete queries like: 1. How often should by baby pass urine? (under 6 weeks, 20-30 times every 24 hours) 2. Should my baby's room always be kept quiet? (not necessarily) 3. What colour is normal for a newborn baby's stools? (black meconium and then runny greenish brown). LOVE the step by step with photos guides to doing things like: 1. Giving your baby a bath 2. Expressing milk 3. How to handle and hold your baby This book assumes NO knowledge (excellent, seeing as I had none) and is clear and readable and comforting. After reading this book, I feel more confident about being able to meet baby's needs when he/she comes home (or if I struggle, I know that is normal too and where to ask for help). |
